For the live music fan

Ian Davidson, School of Music regents’ professor and professional oboist, will showcase his musical talents Oct. 7 at the Performing Arts Center. According to Tour San Marcos, Davidson has performed on six continents and is currently affiliated with two professional orchestras in Austin. Tickets to the performance, which starts at 8 p.m., are $10 for adults and $5 for students, senior citizens and military personnel with an ID.

 

For the history admirer

The Sacred Springs Powwow is an annual celebration of Native American culture taking place Oct. 10 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. According to the event website, it aims to explore thousands of years of culture indigenous to the San Marcos area. Admission is $3 for adults and free for children 12 years or younger.

 

For the animal lover

The 13th annual Pet Fest will take place in San Marcos Plaza Park Oct. 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event, sponsored by the Central Texas chapter of Pet Prevent a Litter, is the organizations largest fundraising opportunity of the year. Participants are encouraged to bring their furry friends dressed in costumes to participate in a variety of competitions. The event will give people the opportunity to meet and adopt shelter animals.

 

For the literature enthusiast

Elizabeth and Noel Crook will visit The Witliff Collections at Texas State Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. to commemorate each other’s writing. The sisters plan to read excerpts from each other’s works and answer questions from the audience. According to Tour San Marcos, Elizabeth Crook will read from Noel’s first book of poetry, Salt Moon, and Noel Crook will read from one of Elizabeth’s novels. Admission to the event is free, but attendees are asked to RSVP to thewittliffcollections@txstate.edu to secure a seat.
