5 reasons to attend Fun Fun Fun Fest

Fun Fun Fun Fest, an Austin music festival now in its 10th year, will run this weekend at Auditorium Shores.

This year’s event features a diverse lineup of artists, including Wu-Tang Clan, Chvrches and Jane’s Addiction.

Here are five reasons why you should attend this year’s festival.

1. The Music Lineup
Fun Fun Fun Fest is known for having one of the most eclectic lineups of any festival in the country. The festival’s Orange, Blue, Black and Yellow Stages each feature a variety of famous, up-and-coming and local musicians. In addition to the music, Bill Nye the Science Guy will make an appearance in the Moody Theatre as part of the festival’s dialogue series.

2. The Laughs
Fun Fun Fun Fest isn’t just about the music. The festival will feature comedians on the Yellow Stage throughout the weekend. The stage is smaller and features a more intimate setting than other music-driven stages. According to the festival website, the comedy lineup includes Tig Notaro, Doug Benson, Eric Andre, Todd Barry and more.

3. The Crowd
Unlike other festivals in the area, such as South By Southwest and Austin City Limits, Fun Fun Fun Fest has managed to stay true to its native culture since its inception. This is most evident in the diversity of the crowd. At this festival, you won’t see blankets and flags scattered throughout the audience. Instead, prepare yourself for stage diving, mosh pits, and tacos shot out of a cannon.

4. The Season
There really isn’t a better place to experience fall than Austin. Although forecasters are calling for scattered showers on Friday and Saturday, the rain will give way to highs in the upper 60s and lows in the 50s.

5. The Taco Canon
The taco canon, a first of its kind invention powered by carbon dioxide and a car battery, made its debut three years ago at the 2012 festival. According to the festival website, the device is an adapted 12-chamber T-shirt cannon outfitted to shoot 36 tacos per round up to 200 feet into the crowd. According to Culture Map Austin, those looking to take advantage of free El Chilito tacos during the festival can track the cannon’s location on the official festival app.
